Some of these narrative posts are going to be really brief. This one, for example.
We got up early, had all our luggage ready to be picked up by 8:00, and then had breakfast before setting out. "Setting out" meant first making for an obelisk in the middle of the Milngavie shopping district marking the start of the West Highland Way, so we could take our pictures next to it. (Sorry, you get a stock photo and not one with our faces.) And then we started walking. For the first hour or so, the environment was urban or suburban: walking through parks or along roadways. But gradually the signs of the city got fewer, and the incidence of sheep pastures increased.
In early afternoon, about the time I wanted to call it a day and we were just halfway to our destination, we came to the Glengoyne Distillery. Debbie wanted to visit it, but we determined that we didn't have time for a full tour. So we visited the gift shop and sampled a couple of the whiskies they had available. Debbie picked out a gift for her son-in-law (that's Mattie's husband, and I don't think I've given him a name in the blog yet). I thought about getting something, but couldn't think how to transport it safely home. So I passed and we went on our way.
By the time we got to Drymen, I was dragging and exhausted and my feet hurt. We were the last ones to check into our B&B, and a good thing because the proprietress was about to leave for the night. But we got our room, and we got some food, and went to bed. I slept well that night too.
